The Town of Mayfield is looking for volunteers to host the Holidays

The Christmas Tuesday operation, scheduled for Tuesday, December 21, needs around 150 volunteers.

MAYFIELD, Ky. (RELEASE) (WTVQ) – The City of Mayfield and County of Graves are looking for volunteers to help bring holiday cheer to city and county residents who were affected by the catastrophic tornado.

The Christmas Tuesday operation, scheduled for Tuesday, December 21, needs around 150 volunteers. Groups of volunteers are preferred. To register, call the Graves County Emergency Line on Monday, December 20 at 270-727-5114 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. CST. You must have your own means of transport.

Those who register on Monday will be asked to arrive at a central meeting point in Mayfield around 9 a.m. CST on Tuesday, December 21, and be available to participate in Operation Christmas until approximately 4 p.m. h 30 that day.

Volunteers will help distribute a 4-day supply of food and water, gift cards and basic supplies to families, as well as deliver toys to each child in the Mayfield Tornado Corridor.

Graves County Executive Judge Jesse Perry said it was an effort to get everyone in the Christmas spirit during a difficult time.

“The tornado destroyed a lot, but it did not cancel Christmas. We believe this will uplift our community with the love of Christmas, especially the children who have lost so much, ”said Perry.

Mayfield Mayor Kathy Stewart O’Nan said Operation Christmas on Tuesday should provide families with the things they need to spend the holidays.

“It’s a huge task, but I have no doubts that our community can do it,” said Mayor O’Nan. “Our families need this helping hand to make it through Christmas.”

Gift cards that can be used for furniture, supplies, food, or clothing are the most needed items. Gift card donations can be mailed or shipped to the Graves County Health Department, 416 Central Ave, Mayfield, KY 42066.
