San Antonio free Landfill Day for Solid Waster Management customers

This weekend is the perfect time to throw away that old mattress you no longer want or the lawn mower that no longer spins. Solid Waste Service customers are invited to participate in a free landfill day in San Antonio.

The Free Burial Day will take place Saturday, July 9 at three different locations in San Antonio from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. You will need to bring photo ID and a copy of your CPS Energy bill as proof of residency.

Guests may dispose of items such as: appliances, water heaters, toilets, furniture, mattresses, carpets, tires and fencing materials. You can also bring bagged garbage to two of the landfills. Loads must be covered with a tarp in accordance with a municipal decree.

Landfills do not accept hazardous waste, building materials, or commercial or industrial waste.

The Solid Waste Service operates four Bulky Item Drop-Off Centers which are free to Solid Waste customers who pay the Environmental Charge on their CPS energy bill. If you can’t make it to Saturday’s event, all four massive centers are free and open Tuesday through Saturday year-round.

The solid waste service also picks up bulky items curbside for customers twice a year. Customers receive a notification on a door hanger for their collection week seven to 10 days before collection begins. Large piles should not exceed eight cubic meters and be placed within eight feet of the curb.
