Mattress Barn gets a new home

FAIRFIELD — Akin Mutla started Mattress Barn as a used furniture store in 2001. He decided to downsize after a few years and his store began to focus on mattresses, bedroom furniture and bedding for children.

Mutla is originally from Turkey and came to the United States when he was 26 years old. Mastering English was a major goal for him and he believed having a business was the best way to achieve this.

He has an engineering degree, but chose the world of retail instead.

This year, Mattress Barn needed to find a new home because the company had lost the lease on the old space. So he moved the store in March to a new location.

“The owner sold the other building,” Mutla said. “It was a shock. Nobody told me anything about it.

The new space is larger at 11,000 square feet and is located near downtown at 649 Beck Ave.

“We always have great prices and plenty of stock to choose from,” Mutla said. “We can also deliver quickly.”

Mutla said he hopes his customers will have a pleasant shopping experience that will create a lasting relationship.

“We are trying to keep our prices at 2019 levels,” he said. “But furniture prices have skyrocketed.”

Mutla said he hopes customers find his prices more reasonable.

The store carries several brands of mattresses such as Rally, Chattam & Wells, MLily, Spring Air and Bed Tech.

“This is a family business, and we offer better value and better prices than many of our competitors,” Mutla said.

The hours remain the same as in the old space and the website has not changed.
