Latrobe Merchants Sweeten Up Shop Hop Event With A Pie Walk

Pie lovers and bargain hunters will both find a reason to visit downtown Latrobe on Wednesday for the business district’s last Shop Hop of the year.

During the Fall Fest Pie March, scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., visitors who stop at participating downtown merchants will have the opportunity to sample a dozen different flavors of pies while supporting the local businesses.

The Third Annual Pie Walk is a paid event for the first time this year with the goal of improving and expanding the monthly Shop Hops theme.

Tickets cost $ 5 and can be purchased in advance by visiting or the Latrobe Shop Hop Nights Facebook page.

Ticket holders should begin their visit at the Shop Hop kiosk in the downtown Latrobe parklet on Main and Ligonier streets. There, between 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., they will receive a stamp to indicate their participation.

Drop-in and cash-only ticket purchases will also be available.

There is a limit of one piece of pie per person at each participating location.

“We can’t wait to return to our traditional style of pie walk this year with a pie served at every location,” said Emily Pasqualino, Founder and Coordinator of Latrobe Shop Hop Night. “This fundraising will allow us to further enrich our future Shop Hop evenings.

Last year, due to covid-19 restrictions, pies were raffled off instead of being served at the event.

Until this year, the pies were supplied by Dainty Pastry Shoppe of Latrobe. The 74-year-old company is recovering from a fire on August 12 that severely damaged its Depot Street building.

“We can’t wait to see them again next year,” Pasqualino said.

Attendees who check-in at the Latrobe Art Center, also in Ligonier and Main, will discover two choices of pies: Blueberry, served by the art center, and Dutch Apple, offered at Masterspieces, a range of handwritten patterns and designs. ‘other items on display inside the center by artist Courtney Masters.

Other participating businesses and their pie offerings include:

• 512 coffee and ice cream, coconut cream

• Blended & Brewed, peanut butter

• Chicoras, pumpkin

• Eclectic, cherry

• Graydog Comics & Toys, lemon meringue

• Grand Latrobe-Laurel Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce, blueberry

• Ground Zero Pittsburgh martial arts studio, fishing

After taking a break for the holidays, Shop Hop parties are slated to return from February 2, with the Valentine-themed “One Sweet Night Out” theme.
