KVIFF Eastern Promises unveils upcoming projects for the 2021 class


– A multitude of promising projects from the EEC region, the Balkans, the Middle East and North Africa will be presented on the KVIFF industrial platform, before the main festival

This year, the industrial platform of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, KVIFF Eastern Promises, will precede the festival itself. Scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 12, it will host 29 selected film projects that will be presented to industry professionals, online, in several sections: Works in Progress (August 10-12), Works in Development – Feature Launch (July 28) and First Cut + Works in Progress (August 3). The most promising projects have a chance to receive prizes with a total value of € 115,000.

The Works in Progress section will present 12 feature films and documentaries at the end of production or post-production, originating in the EEC region, the Balkans, the countries of the former Soviet Union, the Middle East and the North Africa. This year’s selection includes Michal blaskothe drama Victim (see the news), the Ada Solomon-product In the name of mother and father through Plato Tudor, Attila david‘s Dawn and Sara Dolatabadi‘s An owl, a garden and the writer.

KVIFF collaborates with the MIDPOINT Institute, the When East Meets West co-production market and the Trieste Film Festival for Works in Development – Feature Launch. Nine projects have been selected for the platform, all developed under the Feature Launch program and are currently seeking co-production partners. Among the projects chosen are the Czech drama Head nurse, with the director attached, Jan Vejnar, following the incumbent head nurse as she tries to prevent her entire hospital from collapsing due to massive resignations, while simultaneously pushing beyond her own moral limits; imon Holýis the exit drama Thinking David; Maria reinup‘s What it feels like for a girl; and Judita Gamulin‘s Leave the door open, which features a drama involving four families in a Scandinavian furniture store.

Finally, the market support program focusing on Central and Eastern European feature films, First Cut +, will showcase eight projects that have already participated in one of the First Cut Lab’s editing programs.
