Isle of Wight furniture store donates 19 expensive mattresses to Ukraine
Furniture store AN ISLE of Wight has donated a massive number of mattresses to war-torn Ukraine.
Solent Beds and Furniture, which has stores in Lake and Newport, donated 19 Komfi mattresses from its warehouses.
A company spokesperson said: “We stand with Ukraine in this terrible situation that has unfolded over the past few weeks.
“Many have been separated from loved ones, left without a roof over their heads or without basic necessities.
“We will do everything we can to support Ukraine.
“Our team has worked incredibly hard this week, purchasing 19 mattress rolls from our warehouses to donate to the people of Ukraine.
“We hope our small part will help provide much needed rest and relief to some of these innocent victims.
“The mattresses we supplied were Komfi branded – made in Britain and fully recyclable.”
Melissa Groves, from the Isle of Wight Community Help for Ukraine Facebook group, said: “Thank you to everyone who helped with the Ryde Elim Church drop off point today.
“Also, a big thank you to Solent Beds and Furniture; absolutely amazing. Well done everyone.”
Victoria Dunford, who is helping to lead the Isle of Wight’s response to the crisis, said two lorries, carrying some 44 tonnes of items, are on their way to Ukraine from the Isle of Wight.
Two more are expected to leave this week.
