Aldi recalls outdoor furniture over safety issue after more than 1,500 Irish customers bought the product

ALDI has recalled outdoor furniture over a potential safety issue after more than a thousand Irish customers bought the product from stores.

In some cases, cushion covers can deteriorate over time and catch fire if exposed to flame.

Aldi has recalled outdoor furniture due to a potential safety issue

There are approximately 1549 affected products in the Republic of Ireland, sold between February 13, 2022 and April 20, 2022.

The products concerned are:

  • Bench Add on Rattan Effect in all colors – product code 718472, 718473, 718474
  • Add on Stool Two Pack in all colors – product codes 718488, 718489, 718490
  • Rattan effect corner cushion set – product code 718487
  • 3-piece rope-effect coffee service – product code 812664
  • Rattan corner sofa set (without cover) in all colors – product codes 718220, 718221, 718222
  • Hanging Egg Chair – product code 812606

If you have purchased any of these the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has advised you to discard the current cushion cover and contact Aldi for your free replacement covers.

Customers who have purchased these products can contact Aldi’s customer service team on 1800 991 828 to arrange delivery of replacement cushion covers.

In a statement, a CCPC spokesperson said: “Aldi Stores (Ireland) Limited has identified a potential safety issue with the cushion covers of certain garden furniture sold in Aldi stores.

“In some cases, the flame retardant effectiveness of cushion covers may deteriorate over time and, if exposed to flame, the cushion cover may catch fire.

“There are approximately 1,549 products affected in the Republic of Ireland, sold between February 13, 2022 and April 20, 2022.”

Meanwhile, Tesco Ireland is recalling a batch of biscuits due to the “possible presence of small pieces of metal”.

A spokesperson for the Food Safety Authority of Ireland said: “Tesco is recalling the above batch of Tesco Free From Digestive Biscuits due to the possible presence of small pieces of metal.

“Point of sale recall notices will be displayed in Tesco stores.”

The affected product, in a 160 g package, has an expiry date of March 2023.
